Homemade hair products can be an excellent option for many people. In this post, I will share three hair products you can make at home.
What you use in and on your hair is important for healthy hair. Don’t get me wrong, healthy hair starts with your diet and the ability to digest and absorb the nutrients from food, but products may help increase or maintain the health of your hair.
Over the years, I’ve tried many different DIY and homemade hair products -too many to count on just two hands. But today, I only include a few in my hair routine. I’ve always been very experimental with my hair. Over the years I’ve had my hair dyed, flat ironed, curly bangs, deva cut, tapered cut, and shaved. I’ve also tried tons of different store-bought products. But, what has been consistent for me is the use of at least one homemade hair product on a weekly basis.
In this post, you will learn about amazing products you can make in the comfort of your home. These products will benefit your hair in more ways than one!
This post is about homemade hair products.
Must-Try Homemade Hair Products
Best Pre Poo
Pre poo is a hair treatment that is done before you shampoo or cleanse your hair. My favorite pre-poo to use is flaxseed gel. Flaxseed gel is super simple and easy to make. You only really need two ingredients to make it which are water and flaxseeds. Click here to check out this post for a step-by-step guide on how to make flaxseed gel.
This flaxseed gel pre-poo DIY is amazing for your hair. The benefits of flaxseed gel for hair include moisturizing, promoting hair growth, and soothing the scalp. It is also a great homemade hair treatment for damaged hair.
Can you pre poo on dirty hair? Yes, of course! Pre-pooing is done before you wash your hair. To use flaxseed gel as a pre poo, apply it to the entirety of your hair before washing and leave it on for 30 to 60 minutes.
Homemade rosemary hair spray
Another great homemade hair product is rosemary hair spray. Again, this only requires two ingredients -rosemary and water. To make rosemary hair spray you’ll need to simmer a few rosemary sprigs in water for about 15 minutes.
So what are rosemary hair spray benefits? Well, rosemary has many benefits. It is antibacterial and antifungal so it can soothe an itchy or irritated scalp. It can also promote hair growth.
How to use rosemary spray for hair: Spray onto your scalp and massage a few times per week or as often as needed.
Infused Hair Oil
Infused hair oil is the last homemade product I will share today. Infused hair oil has multiple uses. You can use it as a pre poo, as a hot oil treatment, you can use it for scalp massages, or you can just apply it after washing and conditioning your hair.
The best oils to infuse herbs for hair are olive oil, avocado oil, argan oil, and almond oil. Really, there are SO many different oils you can use in an infused hair oil. Choose one or more of your favorite oils. You will also need some herbs, dried flowers, etc. A few of my favorite things to use in an infused hair oil are rosemary, lavender, rose petals, fenugreek, and hibiscus.
You can try out different combinations of herbs and oils and add as many or as few as you like. Combine all of the ingredients in a glass jar and allow it to infuse for about 30 days in a dark place. After it is done infusing, strain the oil and put it in your favorite applicator or bottle.
